Thread veins and spider naevi, skin blemish removal

Facial thread veins or broken red veins (telangiectasia) are small, superficial red, purple or blue veins that occur around the nose and across the cheeks and chin. These broken veins occur when the vein dilates and become larger so they are visible through the transparency of the skin. Although facial veins/spider veins are quite common they can cause some distress and embarrassment for those who have

them.

Facial veins may be hereditary or as a result of a variety of factors including damage from sun exposure, wind and the extremes of temperature. The overuse of steroid creams and certain autoimmune conditions may also induce thread veins. Often the exact cause is unknown and may just be part of the natural ageing process or as a part of a skin condition called rosacea.

The treatment works by directing a current (thermolysis) onto the surface of the skin where the Red Veins are present. The effect is to cauterise the blood vessel and remove it, simply by the application of heat.

The process isn't at all painful, and it only takes around 15 mins - half an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Using a small probe I will tap along the affected area, causing a slight stinging sensation.

After treatment your skin will look lighter and the redness from the Thread Veins will have reduced or been completely removed.

Small crusts may form in the area - do not pick these they will heal in about 7-10 days.
